Hope
Written by Alexa Taylor
I know all too well how fleeting a moment of happiness can be.
I know how few tears must fall to become to fill a void as vast and as cold as the ocean in December,
and I know how quickly one can drown.
But when Hope wraps her arms around me,
She is a beautiful blanket of promises to be made and fears not yet realized.
She dries me with a warmth that sparks envy in even the sun,
and threatens the coldest of winter nights.
She helps me mend the frayed ends of threads that I could never keep from unravelling,
And I begin to create memories just young enough to offer comfort,
even as the old ones that linger offer anything but.
With her, I am trusting enough to believe that I can swim,
even without holding my breath.
